RDRP Volunteers love taking their Greys with them to participate in public service events, involving kids of ALL ages!

Recently, several Greyhound ambassadogs attended the Humane Society of Sarasota County’s Fur Fun Summer Session. This is a “paws-on” program for children, ages 8-12, teaching them about many kinds of animals. On this particular day, the kids were exposed to the marvel of Greyhounds. Who knows? Maybe a future Greyhound owner was in the classroom!

Another good deed was done recently when a couple of Greyhounds made their regular visit to the rehabilitation area of the Pines of Sarasota, a private charitable nonprofit nursing, assisted living and rehab facility.

Greyhounds are the perfect breed of dogs to take to nursing and senior care facilities because they have quiet and calm dispositions and they are just the right height for someone who is in a chair or bed. Dancer and Tator were big hits on this day!

Due to no fault of their own, their owner needed to give them up to RDRP for re-adoption. Ellie has been living in a foster home for the last couple of months, and now has been adopted by her new parents. She has a wonderful way about her and we are so delighted she is now in her final forever home. Best wishes, Ellie, to you and your new family!

Hootie, a mostly white Greyhound with a little bit of black, is currently in a loving foster home while he recovers from a broken leg. His break did not require surgery and we’re hoping for a full recovery soon. His attending veterinarian recently observed he has a “level-head” about him.

Hootie sports black-spotted ears (spotted like a Dalmatian!) and one adorable black patch on his back. So cute!

Hootie’s sister is Throttle, who is also in a foster home and is available for adoption. A dog and a cat live in the home where Hootie is currently staying, but we are not sure if he is cat-friendly at this time.

Just like her sister, Twister has a very pleasing disposition with people. She is not cat-friendly.

Hannah, a red brindle on white beauty, recently retired. Just look at her face! Isn’t she gorgeous?

Well, if looks aren’t enough, she also has a very easy and sweet way about her. She thinks she is a lap dog; she is very loving. Like her full name implies, she IS charming! Hannah retired to RDRP with her sister, Twister, at the same time.

She is cat-friendly.

Worth Animal Control.

The poor dogs were found stacked in cages in a backyard, malnourished, neglected and covered in over 1500 ticks. They were bone thin and many had pressure sores. Funds are desperately needed for the veterinary bills.

Every donated dollar over the weekend of 7/17-7/19 has been split between “Greyhounds Unlimited” and “Greyhound Adoption League of Texas” groups in Texas that are caring for these dogs.

A previously-scheduled Meet & Greet at the Tractor Supply store in Bradenton brought out additional volunteers from the group who worked extended hours to raise money for the Texas Dogs. An impromptu Meet & Greet was set up in front of Chico’s at St. Armand’s Circle Saturday evening, and more than 12 Greyhounds and their people rallied to help. One volunteer, Nancy Faris of Nancy Faris Designs, dedicated the profits from her show in St. Petersburg.

Thanks to the 
residents and visitors in the area who cared enough to donate money to the 
Greyhounds. And thanks to all the generous people within RDRP who supported this 
cause!

Our hearts go out to the rescued dogs and their caretakers, and we wish them the very best from this point forward.

He has a sweet disposition and he knows the wisdom of life. Moe is a wonderful companion to his people and to his canine sisters Chloe and Lexi. (Sadly, Lexi, at 16, recently went to the Rainbow Bridge). Moe, we are so happy for you! You deserve the very best and you got it!
