Movin’ – and groovin’ – that’s our boy! He is one gorgeous Greyhound with a shiny black coat. He is always happy to see visitors to the Center. What a darling boy. His racing name is “Movin’ Again.” He is not cat-friendly.

House broken?
Like most retired racing Greyhounds, Movin’ has never had the opportunity to live in a house before, and therefore, I can’t say he is house-broken. Keep in mind though, these Greyhounds are adult dogs and they are clean. They do not usually mess their kennels and they know how to wait to go outside. We give pointers to new adopters about what they need to do to teach their new Greyhound that their house is now the dog’s new kennel that is to be kept clean. Greyhounds are smart dogs, and with a little bit of kind guidance from their humans in the beginning, they quickly learn their new routine and they are grateful for their new home.
The other thing to keep in mind is that as your new Greyhound’s humans, it is your role to teach him/her about a house, if he/she has never been in a home before. Most likely, they have never seen sliding glass doors, mirrors, swimming pools, tile floors, stairs and other things we take for granted. It is a joy to teach them and watch them adapt so quickly to your home.
When I first started as a volunteer dog-walker with RDRP, I thought Movin’ was a little rough around the edges, after all, I’d had a Greyhound in the house for over a year and she is quite refined. After many walks with Movin’, I’ve come to realize he’s just a big eager boy — eager to be outside, eager to walk, eager to have human friends. Now I look forward to our walks together. He’s a good boy.
